Abstract

Uspješno liječenje kroničnih bolesti kod osoba starije životne dobi zahtijeva pravilno i odgovorno uzimanje propisanih lijekova. Mnoga istraživanja potvrdila su da osobe starije životne dobi ne uzimaju lijekove na način kako im je propisano i savjetovano od strane liječnika. Neadherencija predstavlja veliki zdravstveni i ekonomski problem i smatra se uzročnikom slabijih kliničkih rezultata, gubitka produktivnosti te povećanja ukupnih zdravstvenih troškova. Problem neadherencije zahtijeva multidisciplinarni pristup, konstantnu edukaciju te daljnja istraživanja s ciljem pronalaska novih, inovativnih metoda za svladavanje prepreka adherenciji. Poboljšanje adherencije osoba starije životne dobi predstavlja veliki izazov ali i potencijal pri rješavanju mnogih problema s kojima se danas susreće taj dio populacije. Korištenjem dostupnih metoda i alata za mjerenje adherencije te kontinuiranim razvijanjem strategija koje će doprinijeti poboljšanju adherencije, može se bitno utjecati na ukupno zdravlje pacijenata, naročito onih koji boluju od kroničnih bolesti. Prema svim pokazateljima, biti će još potreban veliki broj kliničkih istraživanja i ulaganja u narednim godinama koje slijede, s ciljem zaokreta u boljoj adherenciji pacijenata.

Abstract (english)

Successful treatment of chronic diseases in older patients requires correct and responsible usage of prescribed medication. Many researches have confirmed that older people do not take their medication the way they were prescribed and advised by their doctors. Non-adherence presents a large health and economic problem and is considered a large cause of worrying clinical results, loss of productivity and the increase of medical expenses in general. The problem of non-adherence requires a multidisciplinary approach, constant education and further research with the goal of finding new, innovative methods of conquering the obstacles of non-adherence. Efforts to improve a adherence in older patients presents a large challenge, but a potential in solving many problems with which the mentioned part of the population is troubled with as well. By using readily available methods and tools for measuring adherence and the continual development of strategies that will contribute to the betterment of adherence, it is possible to influence the general health of the patients, especially those afflicted by chronic diseases. According to all indicators a large amount of clinical research and investments in the upcoming years are still needed in order to reach the goal of bettering the adherence of patients.
