Abstract

Plodovi bijelog duda (Morus alba L., Moraceae) dugi se niz godina koriste u tradicionalnoj medicini kao sredstvo jačanja zdravlja i promicanja dugovječnosti. Provedena znanstvena istraživanja pokazuju terapijski potencijal plodova bijelog duda u prevenciji i liječenju niza zdravstvenih tegoba, poput hiperlipidemije, pretilosti, ateroskleroze, šećerne bolesti tipa 2, Parkinsonove bolest, ali i nekih vrsta tumora. Plodovi bijelog duda pokazuju izrazito antioksidacijsko djelovanje koje se može pripisati fenolnim spojevima prisutnima u njima, posebice cijanidin 3-glukozidu i cijanidin 3-rutinozidu, rutinu te galnoj kiselini. Potrebna su daljnja istraživanja koja bi pokazala mehanizme djelovanja, potencijalne nuspojave i indikacije za kliničku primjenu plodova.

Abstract (english)

The fruits of white mulberry (Morus alba L., Moraceae) have long been used in traditional medicine as a remedy to strenghten health and promote longevity. Scientific research that have been published show the therapeutic potential of white mulberry fruits in the prevention and treatment of a number of health problems, such as hyperlipidemia, obesity, atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's disease and also some types of tumors. White mulberry fruits show a pronounced antioxidant effect that can be attributed to the phenolic compounds present in them, especially cyanidin 3-glucoside and cyanidin 3-rutinoside, rutin and gallic acid. Further research is needed to show the mechanisms of action, potential side effects and indications for clinical use of the fruits.
