Abstract

Ljekovita svojstva matičnjaka (Melissa officinalis L.) stoljećima su poznata u Europi i širem mediteranskom području,
a tradicija liječenja u Hrvatskoj započela je utjecajem njemačkih srednjovjekovnih samostana. Farmakološki učinci
poput antidepresivnog, anksiolitičkog, antidijabetičkog, kardioprotektivnog i antimikrobnog istraženi su u brojnim
radovima. Polifenolima, među kojima su i flavonoidi, najčešće se pripisuju antivirusni i neuroprotektivni učinci.
U ovom radu, spektrofotometrijskom metodom prema Christu i Mülleru kvantitativno su analizirani flavonoidi u
osušenim listovima matičnjaka s različitih nalazišta. Statistička obrada rezultata provedena je Studentovim t-testom.
Najveća količina flavonoida od 0,42 % određena je u uzorku iz Farmaceutskog botaničkog vrta „Fran Kušan“
skupljenom 2016., a najmanja vrijednost od 0,14% u uzorku uzgojenom 2014. u Našicama.

Abstract (english)

Medicinal properties of lemon balm (Melissa officinalis L.) have been known for centuries in Europe and the wider
Mediterranean area. In Croatia, using lemon balm as a medicinal plant begun under the influence of German
monasteries during the Middle Ages. Antidepressant, antidiabetic, cardioprotective and antimicrobial properties have
been investigated in numerous studies. Polyphenols, including flavonoids, are considered to be the main components
responsible for antiviral and neuroprotective effects.
In this thesis, the amount of flavonoids in dried leaves collected from various locations was assessed using the
spectrophotometric method by Christ and Müller. The statistical analysis was performed using the Student's t-test.
The highest flavonoid content of 0,42% was found in leaves collected from the Pharmaceutical Botanical Garden of
Medicinal Plants “Fran Kušan” (2016) while the lowest one of 0,14% was detected in leaves from Našice (2014).
