Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Hepatitis C is a global health problem. In a period of five years combination of interferon and ribavirin was used in Clinical Hospital Dubrava as a therapy for hepatitis C. This therapy was used by 39 patients in Clinical Hospital Dubrava whose medical documentation was researched in this study. We investigated the most popular genotypes in the population and the efficiency and safety of this therapy. The efficiency of therapy was measured trough the number of people that had sustained viral response. Study shows that genotypes 1 and 4 were more frequent in the population but people with genotypes 2 and 3 had a better response to the treatment. Only 36% of patients with genotypes 1 and 4 and 64.28% of patients with genotypes 2 and 3 had SVR. This therapy had serious side effects such as anemia, pancytopenia, leukocytopenia etc. Due to the side effects some of the patients had to stop using their therapy. Better response to the therapy, with less side effects, was among younger people and among people with lower viral load. Although it includes only 39 patients, this study shows almost the same results as other similar studies that investigates efficiency and safety of interferon and ribavirin therapy.
